Six people have been killed in Uttarakhand after a cloudburst in a village in Tehri district.

TV reports suggest that seven houses in the village were also damaged as a result of the cloudburst. Police have recovered two bodies and were searching for four others in the village, said police officer Pravin Tamta. The village is 300 km north of New Delhi.

According to CNN-IBN, the police authorities were not able to reach the site till seven or eight hours after the incident because of the bad conditions following the cloudburst.

The road between Rudraprayag and Tehri has been closed. Moreover, the Meteorological Department officials said that more rainfall was expected in Uttarakhand in the next 24 hours. Rescue operations are underway.

This incident comes a day after a landslide in Matin village of Ambegaon tehsil in Pune killed 25 people. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to visit the village on Thursday to assess the situation.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives in the landslide. “The Prime Minister has condoled the loss of lives in the landslide and directed all possible efforts to help the affected people,” a PMO statement said in Delhi.
