Rickie Lambert
Lambert has scored 28 Premier League goals across two season ahead of his move to Liverpool.

Rickie Lambert has been tipped to replace Luis Suarez at Liverpool despite the club continuing to seek a forward to fill the void left by the Uruguay international.

Divock Origi's move from Lens was confirmed on Tuesday however the Belgian international will not join the Reds permanently until the summer of 2015.

It leaves Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers searching for a new forward to replace Suarez – who has joined Barcelona – and McAteer believes that Lambert is among those capable of dealing with the responsibility.

"There is plenty of goals in that team. Last year Liverpool were set up for Sturridge and Suarez to score the goals," he told Sky Sports News Radio.

"If you see the progress of the likes of Raheem Sterling has made, players like that, they'll be full of confident going into this season after the World Cup and his performances at the end of the season.

"You'll get goal from Raheem Sterling, and Daniel Sturridge I think will carry on in the vein he did last season. Rickie Lambert when he gets a start is always good for a goal so there are goals from all over the place.

"There are goals from everywhere, that is the way Brendan is set up and the way he plays. They play very expansively, o the break they're easy on the eye so they create a lot of chance that way."

The deal for Lambert was accompanied with skepticism in some quarters ahead of Liverpool's return to the Champions League however with 28 goals across his two seasons in the Premier League the 32 year old has shown himself to be more than capable.

With a deal for Loic Remy having fallen through reportedly due to a medical, Rodgers remains adamant the club will continue to search for alternative targets.
