There are French reports tonight that Newcastle United have put in a new bid for 23 year-old Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.
Alexandre Lacazette – Lyon striker open to move to Newcastle
Newcastle have been interested in Lacazette for the last six months, and Newcastle certainly need a top striker brought in before the end of August.
Lyon want a decent price for their striker, thought to be around £16M, and his club have even offered him a new three-year deal to stay at the club.
The reports in France suggest the negotiations are only at a preliminary stage, but with Liverpool failing to sign Loic Remy earlier this week, the Reds could still feel that Lacazette is a good option for them.
Jean-Michel Aulas, the President of Lyon is not an easy man to deal with, as we found out last summer, when Joe Kinnear was trying to get striker Bafe Gomis to the club.
Alexandre is also said to be happy enough to move to Newcastle United, according to the French reports.
And that could be a key factor in Newcastle being able to push through a deal for the twice capped French International.
Lacazette had an excellent season last term for Lyon, and scored 23 goals in 46 total appearances for his club, and only just missed out on a place in the French World Cup squad.
In what was thought to be a close decision by manager Didier Deschamps, Newcastle on loan striker Loic Remy was preferred to the French youngster.

Comment #5Are some still harping on about Remy, bloody hell have you no shame? He rejected us in January for a team destined for relegation, joined us on loan so he could get a dream move in this window, refused to commit to us after we paid £2m loan fee throughout the season. Refused to play in the last game of the season because it meant nothing to him, finally we make a move at the end of the season and he says he’ll be joining a top 4 team. Get a grip, mercenary, self centred, egotistical t*** who has a worse attitude than ones some already criticise at the club.
No thank you on Remy and please give it a rest about him, he said no to us so many times, NO MEANS NO!! Let him enjoy life playing in front of 17000 fans that’s what he initially signed up for

Comment #6Wow! Two articles in half an hour and both of them jumped on by the same moaners. One even copied and pasted the same moan, just in case some of us missed it (see the following article).
On topic, Grenier and Lacazette would be amazing, but I’ll be needing to see them holding the shirt before I jump for joy.

Comment #7Just an interesting thought as to why Newcastle seem to be shelling out a lot of money for these players, and an answer to everyone’s confusion/skepticism/disbelief as to a) why we are seemingly becoming more ambitious and b) why some sort of ‘sensational swoop’ may not be so unlikely.
I have had a look at Mike Ashley’s net worth over the last 5 years. Here is the data…
March 2007 – 2bn (Ashley bought the club June – July 2007)
March 2008 – 2.5 bn
March 2009 – 1.1 bn
March 2010 – 1.5 bn
March 2011 – 1.9 bn
March 2012 – 2.5 bn
March 2013 – 3.5 bn
March 2014 – 5.5 bn
Compare this to business in transfer windows…
2007 – Barton, Rozenthal, Faye, Beye, Enrique
Total = 20M
2008 – Gutierrez, Guthrie, Bassong, Collocini, Ranger, Xisco (LOL)
Total = > 18 M
2009 – Lovenkrands, Simpson, Vuckic, Nolan, R Taylor
Total = 4-5 million ish
2010 = Best, Perch, Gosling, S Campbell, Tiote,
Total = Alot of free transfers
2011 = Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Ba, Marveaux, Oberton, Santon
Total= More than 2010
2012 = Cisse, Anita, Biggi,
2013 = Debuchy, Sissoko, Mbiwa, Goufran, Haidara, Remy
Total – back around 20 mill mark
2014 – Colback, Perez, Riviere, Cabella, De’jong, Jan maat
Total = 30 million ish.
So what I take from this is that there is a direct correlation between how much spare change Ashley has in the bank and how much Newcastle United are prepared to invest in players. Seeing has how Mike Ashley has done very well in the business world in the last couple of years and seems to be one of the few people who has capitalised on the recession, it is not unreasonable to suggest he is prepared to put more investment into his pet project aka NUFC.
If you look at the types of players we are buying as well, moving away from the best’s and nolans and bartons to the cabellas, cabayes, remy’s, de jongs etc. We are looking to buy young talent, progress these talents and are prepared to let them go to “bigger clubs” if they want to go and are in demmand. This makes Newcastle a very attractive proposition to young up and coming players especially in leagues like the French league where players tend to be overlooked as they are not in the top european leagues. (I’m not saying I like that motivation but it is a reason for players hoping to emulate the likes of debuchy and cabaye to sign on the dotted line).
So with Lyon being cash poor, Ashley being cash risk, and Newcastle an attractive option as a stepping stone club to champions league football I think that if Lacazette and Grenier realise they may be stuck at Lyon if they’re not careful, we could see this double swoop.
If we can use all of these factors to get players of high quality to the club at the right time (as liverpool did last season) we could break back into the big club category and start trying to keep these players, and attract new ones based on the merits of the team, with its history, support and hopefully champions league football.
Sorry realise i rambled on for a while but I just got to thinkin’….
