Know the Opponent: ACC and Big XII

We’re back to combining conferences so that we can get through this before the season kickoff in just over a month. The next three schools we’re looking at are Boston College and Virginia from the ACC plus Texas of the Big XII.

Boston College Eagles – 7-6/4-4 ACC, Made it back to a bowl game last season which resulted in them getting run over by Arizona 42-19 in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl. Steve Addazio made a bowl in his first season after a successful stint at Temple. BC returns just nine starters from last season (three offense/six defense) returning this season. They’ll host USC on Saturday, September 13 at Alumni Stadium with kickoff set for 5 pm on ABC/ESPN.

Virginia Cavaliers – 2-10/0-8 ACC, Mike London is looking for a bounce back year after losing ten games and going winless last season. Coach London in his fifth season will have a veteran squad which returns eight on offense and nine on defense. Senior Kevin Parks, returns after a 1,065 season on the ground with 11 touchdowns. They’ll open by hosting UCLA on Saturday, August 30 at Scott Stadium with kickoff at 9 am/Pacific on ESPN, this is the second straight PAC-12 school to play in Charlottesville with Oregon playing their last season.

Texas Longhorns 8-5/7-2 Big XII, When PAC-12 fans last saw the Longhorns they were being demolished 30-7 in San Antonio against the Ducks at the Alamo Bowl. That defeat among other things lead to a coaching change on the 40 acres, Mack Brown out and former Louisville coach Charlie Strong in. Texas returns seven starters on offense which includes QB David Ash and their top two rushers Malcolm Brown/Jonathan Gray who each finished shy of 1,000 yards. Defensively they’ll return eight starters from a decent unit. Saturday, September 13 they’ll face UCLA in Arlington at Cowboy Stadium with kickoff schedule for 5 pm on FOX.
