Lukas Podolski has urged his Germany teammate Sami Khedira to leave Real Madrid and join Arsenal in the summer transfer window.

Toni Kroos completed his move to the Spanish capital earlier this month and the arrival of the former Bayern Munich star has seen his compatriot being linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu.

The Gunners are reportedly interested in securing a deal for Khedira. Meanwhile, the former Real manager Jose Mourinho is also believed to be keen on signing the German international for Chelsea.

The north London club already has three German players at the Emirates and the list includes Podolski, Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker. Podolski says it would be great if Khedira decides to join him and his fellow countrymen at Arsenal.

"I didn't have to [try to convince Khedira to join Arsenal]," Podolski told Sport Bild.

"Sami knows how much fun he could have with me, Mesut [Ozil] and Per [Mertesacker] at Arsenal. We had a great time together at the World Cup and I would like it very much if he comes to London."

Khedira has one year left on his contract with the Champions League winners and has not signed a new deal to extend his stay with the La Liga giants. The midfielder's agent has admitted his client is not close to agreeing a new deal with Real.

"We are talking to Real Madrid about his contract, but nothing is close to being decided. Sami has just returned from the World Cup and has gone on holiday," Khedira's agent Jorg Neubauer told the Telegraph.

Meanwhile, recent rumours have suggested that Arsenal had agreed a deal with Real for the transfer of Khedira to the Emirates. However, the German midfielder's representative has put those speculations to bed.

"We are not in talks with Arsenal. I don't think a fee can have been agreed, otherwise I would have been told," Neubauer said.

"When a club have an interest I am sure they will call me and we will speak about things. The same goes for Chelsea."
