From what we’ve seen of Emmanuel Riviere so far, the 24 year-old looks like a potentially very good acquisition for Newcastle, and he opened his account on Tuesday night with a goal after just 26 minutes against Sydney FC, and he looks fast.
Emmanuel Riviere – huge ambitions at Newcastle
This is some of what Emmanuel has said in the Northern Echo this morning:
“Living in Monaco was a good life … it’s a great place, the sun always shines. But I wanted to come here to feel more pressure when I play … I do have the sea here (but it’s freezing) in Newcastle too!”
“Playing for France is one of the reasons I moved here. So many French players have been selected for France after moving here so I am hoping for the same.”
“It’s a great club to be noticed, so it’s a very good club for my career. It should also be nice to have the French players around to help me settle and adapt.”
“I know I will have to work at it because it is a more difficult league to France.”
Emmanuel is right that a number of French players have done very well on Tyneside, and Yohan Cabaye had only two senior caps for France. when we signed him in June 2011, and once his pal Mathieu Debuchy signed on 18 months ago, he also became a regular in the France side.
If Riviere is capped by France at the senior level, it would (probably) mean he’s done (very) well at Newcastle, so that’s what we’d like to see.
Certainly the lad has some huge ambitions – and there’s nothing wrong with that – you have to think of big things first before you can achieve them – so there’s no harm in doing that.
Thinking big is good. 😀

what if they want to comb their pubes?
I suppose bald mens matted pubes would somehow be blamed on pardew as well

Comment #3This guy seems to have an excellent attitude. I think with that ethos he could find himself on the score sheet regularly. Good luck to him. Heres hoping.

Comment #7Er… lots of talk about how he started wll and i am sure a first goal on his debut will give confidence but…. it was against bull crap opposition. we need one more striker that isn’t a kid! or when not if injuries hit we are screwed ! also people saying we don’t need Grenier even though i do not believe we will even go for him now say we don’t need him are retarded! De Jong is also injury prone. Cabella is injury prone. we need 3 options to keep creativity in this team if someone gets injured. Pards is full of shit ! i know we can’t get better under Ashley but who is he selling this bullshit too? if you wanna attack the top 4 you need people that can step up. So if Cabella and De Jong are both out for a few weeks we are back to not scoring for 7 games? stop being fooled! we have bought with what we sold where is the 70 mil tv money we need a striker, grenier and an game reading lump that can head the ball! why didn’t we go for Lescott?!

Comment #12I’m worried now about getting a CB and ST in. These are imperative to a successful season! Without them we will crumble like we always do and it’s another year wasted.

Comment #13Rivvy needs to score early in the season….
All strikers like to get the monkey off their backs as soon as possible. I hope he has pace as suggested.

Comment #14I am excited also we are signing good or potentially good prem players but this is what would should of been doing the last 2 summers! and look at the squad we look light and average when losing a couple of starters through injury ? lets be realistic guys/girls we need a Better CB intelligent and muscle to partner Colo. Another creative player to sit with Tiote (cabaye role) and splash on a striker that will without doubt scare defenders and score goals.. definitely not Carroll

We cannot start the season with colo and big mike as cb’s. I like them both but we are too slow at the back with these two. MYM alongside a commanding cb would do…..who that commanding cb is I have no idea.

i agree we need a CB, and a Goal scorer (15 goals +).
I do disagree that sdj and cabella injury prone. Niether have had recent injuries, and one of sdj was a collapsed lung, which is a freak and can happen to anyone. There injury records are no where near bad enough to say “injury prone”.

I agree
but if I had to get 2 of the 3 id go one more player in mid with creativity and the striker is definite over all! ya know we ain’t get anything else though we bought with what we have sold and Gashley has pocketed profit despite promising everything the club makes goes back into it. Anyone that enquiresto buy he will try still add his debt on despite taking the money out of the club into his own wallet.

Comment #18that defence is dog shit for pace but the defence was under alot of pressure and had the weight of the team on them with a none creative mid and an out of form striker also. keep the team on the front foot relieves that shit . keep creative options in the team. Even when Cabaye was injured you seen the confidence and organisation drop. The team drops to deep. Need creative in mid guys. Id take that over another striker defender and if need be pla a faster winger mid through the middle like Robson used to with Dyer in UEFA cup

Nah I don’t think we will try sign another ST especially the way Pards is bigging up Rivierre our business is done and its spot on. Our season will crumble again. Another wasted and Sissoko will leave and any other player that has a good season

Comment #21Cabella has been in and out of the team apart from last and even the owner of montpellier says he is fragile but has pace on his side. Prem is stronger. SDJ said 60 mins against oldham he could feel his legs cramping! im sure sdj will be fine but cabella isn’t proven at carrying a team that he is being hyped to do?
need another option

Comment #22we need more than 2 creative players if we are to believe pards bullshit that we can attack the best this season. Thats the end all and be all. you have bad luck if 3 players like all top teams have are fucked at the same time that influence play and give even the most average striker a chance to score and your defence confidence it aint all down to them stopping a defeat

Comment #24I will judge him after the villa away match. Whether he has enough strength and movement to deal with a solid premier league centre will show how good he is.
The videos on you tube show his pace against CBs, you don’t get that in the PL so he needs more to his game than that.

Comment #25This club was back in the Prem with bargain buys like Andy Cole from BCFC and Rob Lee from charlton the difference is the club had ambition and from owner through to manager inspired the city and the players we could be the best and they believed it so the players and the city did not like this see through web of lies that players keep saaing and leaving the club! unless they show real ambition and sign the 3 top players we need its all replacing players and actually look at it we are ability wise worse off than when we finished 5th. While other clubs wanting to win the league grow

Comment #27Personally I think things are looking up, I wish we had at least competed with qpr for Caulker because he would of been a great english signing! Now we need to get somebody who is a proven CB and a good goalscorer and maybe another anchor in midfield as when tiote didnt play cabaye could sit in there, but a goalscorer and a rock at the back is our maon concern
