ESPN Sees Oregon Ducks As Most Efficient Offense for 2014 Season

In May ESPN released their Power Football Index looking at quite a few factors they were able to breakdown key players in the 2014 College Football season and to no surprise the Florida State Seminoles came in at number one, with the Oregon Ducks on their heels at number two. In taking a closer look the folks at ESPN Insider projected the Oregon Ducks as the most efficient offense for the 2014 season.

The Breakdown,as explained by ESPN says the numbers refer to efficiency in terms of expected points added per game that each team’s offense is projected to contribute to its scoring margin. Because the ratings are scaled against the FBS baseline, an average offense would contribute zero net points per game against an average defense.

The Oregon Ducks offensive efficiency was plus 17.9 – good enough for the top spot. Oregon enters the 2014 season, along with Florida State with two of the most potent offenses in the Nation. There is another team that is looking to reload with talent in Ohio State that could give both the Ducks and Seminoles a run this season. The Buckeyes are ranked sixth in the ESPN Preseason Football Power Index just behind UCLA at number five.

The Oregon Ducks will look to create actual statistics on the field starting with South Dakota on Saturday, August 30th. The game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks with a 7:30pm Pacific time kickoff.
