Know the Opponent: FCS Part I(vs Pac-12 Foes)

Our 2014 edition of the Know the Opponent for the upcoming football season begins with the FCS schools. Since there are seven that’ll appear on PAC-12 schedules we’ll look at four this time and three in the next edition.

All four schools that we’ll be looking at hail from the Big Sky Conference of the FCS.

Eastern Washington Eagles – Went 12-3, 8-0 Big Sky, lost to Towson in the FCS semifinals. EWU is a consistent team that fans remember for knocking off Oregon State a couple seasons ago. They’ll face in-state foe Washington on September 6 in Seattle at Husky Stadium.

Idaho State Bengals – 3-9, 1-7 Big Sky, faced two FBS teams losing by a combined score of 115-13 (@Washington and @BYU). The Bengals started out 2-0 in 2013 before losing eight of their final nine games. Idaho State opens with Utah on August 28 in Salt Lake City at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Portland State Vikings – 6-6, 3-5 Big Sky, the highlight of their season was probably losing 37-30 at Cal in 2013. Despite starting 3-1 they finished 3-5 which resulted in a .500 record at season’s end. The Vikings are in Corvallis on August 30 taking on Oregon State at Reser Stadium. Portland State will take on Washington State two weeks later in Pullman on September 13 at Martin Stadium.

Sacramento State Hornets – 5-7, 4-4 Big Sky, opened with back-to-back FBS opponents losing by a combined 79-0 (@San Jose State and @Arizona State). The Hornets played three OT games going 1-2 with the two defeats by a combined six points. Square off on September 6 at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley against California.
