| | CCLSC on Tour The fixtures were not necessarily that kind to us with midweek away fixtures at Scunthorpe, Oldham, Barnsley and Fleedwood. The Fleetwood game in March 2015 was particuarly cruel as many members had been looking forward to going to Highbury, a new ground for many, and perhaps spending a week end in Blackpool. The first "local" away game is at Orient on 1 November. Having played at Brisbane Road on three occasions last season, all on a Tuesday evening, it will make a pleasant change to go on a Saturday. This is followed in late November with a trip to Colchester. Other local games see us at Gillinham in January and Crawley on the final day of the season. The annual trip to the pre season game at Nuneaton, which normally kicks off our away trips unfortunately clashes with the AGM on 19 July. Of the pre season friendlies the games against Watford, at Boreham Wood, on Wednesday 30 July and Stevenage on Saturday 2 August, should see a number of CCLSC members attending. | | Travel arrangements With the fixtures for the coming season now out let Simon know at cclsc.co.uk@googlemail.com if you are interested in joining other CCLSC members on travel to away games. Group travel is available for some games but for others, generally the longer distance games, to obtain good prices we do need to book early for these games. Virgin and East Coast often release advance tickets up to 12 weeks in advance. | | | Travel details for the August games were sent out on the day the fixtures were released with indicative times and prices. Bradford City - Saturday 9 August. Group travel is not available for this trip. With Simon at the World Cup I purchased tickets for a small number of members travelling on the 09.03 from Kings Cross arriving into Bradford at 11.55, travelling via Leeds. Return on the 18.39 arriving back into Kings Cross at 22.18. Prices have already gone up and current prices for these trains are £71 return. Although a later train back can reduce the cost to £54. MK Dons - Saturday 23 August. Travel details are still being reviewed as London Euston is closed that day and currently advertised travel includes a bus replacement service between Watford and Hemel Hampstead. adding considerably to the journey time. Swindon - Saturday 30 August. Suggested train is the 11.00 from Paddington arriving Swindon 11.54. Return on the 18.11 arriving back into Paddington at 19.13. Prices likely to be in the region of £25-30. for September games Rochdale - Saturday 20 September. Please note that subject to TV, Chelsea play at Manchester City on the same day which will mean that advanced tickets will need to be purchased as soon as they become available. If members are interested in going to Rochdale tickets may need to be purchased in the next few days to obtain advance ticket prices. The is no trip being organised to Scunthorpe due to it not being possible to get back into London after the game on Tuesday 16 September. | | Ticketing One of the advantages of CCLSC membership is that we can obtain ticket collection for away games on members behalf enabling them to sit together. Thanks to the tireless work of Barry, not to mention his trips to the Ticket office, has eased the burden of getting tickets. Let Barry know if you are interested in going to any of the early games next season at john_chattaway@sky.com. Barry is taking orders now for the Bradford, MK Dons and Swindon games. | | | CCLSC Matters CCLSC entered a team into the Coventry City Former Players Association Golf Day again this year. I joined Charles Tomkins and Jim McIlwaine (pictured) at the Stoneleigh Park Golf Club. | | We certainly didn't disgrace ourselves finishing someway off the winning team's total points but comfortably away from the wooded spoon. We were joined on our table for dinner by Andy Blair and Gordon (Sid) Cowans, the ex England and V*lla player. Asked what his fondest memory playing for City was, Andy was clear it was the two League Cup Semi Finals against West Ham and how disappointed he was losing the second leg in the last minute. Gordon Cowans told us how disappointed he was to have broken his leg in a pre season friendly against the Mexican team FC America. Sid explained he had played in eight consecutive England games before the incident and never really got back into the international scene with the emergence of the new breed of midfielders like Becks, Gerrard and Lampard. Five CCLSC members attended the Diamond Club luncheon at the Ricoh in June. Below is Phil Smith taking the opportunity to be photographed by the Jimmy Hill statue and Charles Tomkins and myself arriving at the Ricoh. The other two members, with 50 years supporting the Sky Blues, who attended were Barry Chattaway and Eric Whiting. John Sillett and David Busst were amongs the speakers at a very enjoyable luncheon. | | Finally, a reminder for your diary. The CCLSC Annual General Meeting will take place on Saturday 19 July at the Calthorpe Arms. If members could let me know if they are planning on attending this will help with seating and the buffet. Members have been sent the updated constitution which is being recommended for approval at the AGM. If members can't attend can they please send in a proxy to ensure that all members views are taken into account.
