PAC-12 Baseball Final Recap

Wednesday night the college baseball season concluded in Omaha, Nebraska at TD Ameritrade Park and the Vanderbilt Commodores winning the national title. Vandy defeated the Virginia Cavaliers in game three of the title series, claiming the school’s first baseball crown.

Why are we mentioning the Commodores? On their path along the road to Omaha they knocked off two PAC-12 schools before hoisting the title. Starting with Oregon in the Regional’s and following up with Stanford in the Super Regional’s.
Duck fans probably don’t want to take solace in losing to the National champion but Oregon gave them all they could handle in Nashville. Vanderbilt won the first game 7-2 before needing two runs in order to eliminate coach George Horton’s team.
Sure it’s another season which came up short of making the College World Series but losing to the champs is a small consolation prize. The Cardinal saw the same happen at Hawkins Field losing in three games.
VU winning it all ended the conferences run of back-to-back championships with Arizona and UCLA. Don’t count out either the Ducks or Cardinal reloading and making another run as well as other PAC-12 foes getting back to the heartland.
Five schools made the NCAA tournament, Oregon State bowed out early even with being the top seed, Washington narrowly lost to another CWS team in Ole Miss in regional play. Arizona State after going two and done hired a new head coach in Indiana’s Tracey Smith this week. In addition to the two schools already mentioned.

Oregon State (23-7, 45-14) – 2nd place Corvallis Regional
Washington (21-9, 41-17) – 2nd place Oxford Regional
Arizona State (19-11, 33-24) – 4th place San Luis Obispo Regional
Oregon (18-12, 44-20) – 2nd place Nashville Regional
Stanford (16-14, 35-26) – 1st place Bloomington Regional/Loss in Super Regional to Vanderbilt
Southern California (16-14, 29-24)
Washington State (14-16, 24-30)
California (13-17, 26-27)
UCLA (12-18, 25-30)
Arizona (9-21, 22-33)
Utah (4-26, 16-36)
