Laura Dern Says David Lynch Is “Definitely Cooking” Up A New Film
Having worked with David Lynch across three films—”Blue Velvet,” “Wild At Heart” and his last movie, 2006’s “Inland Empire“—Laura Dern perhaps knows a thing or two about the director’s process. And particularly given that Lynch has shown little to no interest, at least publicly, about making another feature, the actress might be the next most logical person to ask if Lynch is going to make a movie again. And, it would appear that despite his ventures into art and music, Lynch may not have left the movies too far behind.
“I will be working with David Lynch when I’m 80. He is cooking, he’s cooking up trouble, and I will be part of that trouble,” Dern enthusiastically told Digital Spy. “He’s the consummate renaissance man, he just makes art wherever he can get his hands on it. But film, ultimately, I know is his great love, and I think he will always circle back to it. He’s definitely cooking.”
Tantalizing stuff, but as always, there’s no clue about when, where, what or how this project might materialize, so don’t get too excited just yet. And indeed, Lynch is still focused on his other projects, such as his David Lynch Signature Cup coffee. And he recently chatted with Munchies about why he loves the stuff so much, kicking off with what a good cup of joe should taste like. “It should have no bitterness, and it should be smooth and rich in flavor. I like to drink espresso with milk, like a latte or a cappuccino, but the espresso should have a golden foam,” Lynch said.
But more crucially, Lynch credits coffee with fueling his artistic muse. “You know there’s a thing—since I was in high school, I read a book called ‘The Art Spirit’ by Robert Henri, and in it he talks about this art spirit that transformed itself into the art life for me. Coffee is part of the art life,” Lynch explained. “I don’t know quite how it works, but it makes you feel really good and it serves the creative process. It goes hand in hand with painting for sure.”
But, what drink fuels his films? Maybe he’s still looking for it…
