Mo Claiborne back in team drills

IRVING, Texas -- Morris Claiborne was happy to be golfing on Tuesday even if he had never really swung a club before.

Claiborne did not participate in the 2012 and '13 Dallas Cowboys' sponsor golf tournaments because of injuries. Even though he had shoulder and finger surgeries earlier in this offseason, he has been cleared for all activities.

"I plan on learning and getting more into it," Claiborne said of golf.

But his main focus is getting better at cornerback. After sitting out of team drills the first week of the organized team activities, Claiborne is taking snaps in 11-on-11 work this week.

"It's a big advantage," Claiborne said. "Every rep is important. Missing reps, being out with the team and not getting those game-time reps, it can hurt you."

Claiborne missed six games last season with a hamstring injury and also played through the shoulder injury. He lost his starting job to Orlando Scandrick and is in a fight to reclaim it this summer. He has missed practice time with wrist, knee and hamstring injuries since the Cowboys took him with the sixth pick of the 2012 draft.

He understands he needs a big 2014 season and getting in as much offseason work can only help.

"I'm ready to go," Claiborne said. "Last week was just something for precaution. They were holding me out. They kept asking me how do I feel, how do I feel. I kept telling them I'm great. I feel like I'm able to go out and do everything. I'm able to do everything in the weight room, and individuals is different than going out in the team periods."
