Break-in Reported at The Clipper Ship Inn

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's log: 


Wednesday, May 7

  • At 4:30 p.m., police responded to a medical emergency on Butler Street.
  • At 4:34 p.m., police responded to a report of an exploded manhole cover on Lafayette Street. There were no reported injuries or damage. The area was blocked off and National Grid responded to the scene.
  • At 5:19 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Leach Street. Xiang F. Xu, 38, of 30 Leach St., Salem, was arrested on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. 
  • At 5:34 p.m., police responded to a dispute between landlord and tenant on Washington Street.
  • At 5:54 p.m., a resident entered the police station to report that someone stole her diaper bag while she was at the park.
  • At 6:47 p.m., police responded to a break-in at the Clipper Ship Inn. A man reportedly broke into one of the hotel rooms. Matthew B. Rodgers, 32, of the streets of Salem, was arrested on a charge of breaking and entering during the daytime to commit a felony.
  • At 8:23 p.m., police responded to a past larceny on Pope Street. 
  • At 8:47 p.m., police responded to an alarm on Jefferson Avenue
  • At 9:30 p.m., police responded to an alarm on Derby Street.
  • At 9:31 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Bridge Street.
  • At 9:50 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on West Avenue.
  • At 10:11 p.m., police responded to a report of suspicious activity on High Street. 
  • At 11:30 p.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Pope Street.  

Thursday, May 8

  • At 12:27 a.m., police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Mason Street. John P. Condon, 26, of 32 West St., Beverly Farms, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
  • At 12:38 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Bridge Street.
  • At 1:22 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Harbor Street.
  • At 3:55 a.m., police responded to a noise complaint on Salem Street.
  • At 5:19 a.m., police responded to a past vehicle break-in on Orange Street.
  • At 9:19 a.m., police responded to a past larceny on Federal Street.
  • At 9:24 a.m., police made an arrest on Congress Street.
  • At 11:01 a.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Sophia Road.
  • At 11:28 a.m., police responded to a dispute on Endicott Street.
  • At 12:01 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Balcomb Street.
  • At 12:21 p.m., police conducted a well-being check on Heritage Drive.
  • At 2:21 p.m., police responded to a report of a loose greyhound near the intersection of Lafayette Street and Forest Avenue.
  • At 4:31 p.m., police responded to a domestic dispute on Margin Street.
  • At 5:05 p.m., police responded to a reported larceny from a motor vehicle on Highland Avenue.
