Overview

CSK have embarked on their quest to win the IPL for the third time with two victories and one defeat so far. They beat Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their previous game by seven runs on Wednesday.

The Chennai based outfit could only manage 140 runs in the opening innings as their top-order failed to post any considerable fight. Dwayne Smith and Ravindra Jadeja were the highest scorers for Stephen Fleming's side scoring 50 and 36 runs respectively.

The Super Kings successfully denied the Royals from chasing the set target and bowled them all out for 133 runs by the last over. Jadeja was declared the Man of the Match for his overall contribution, which saw the all-rounder take four wickets.

CSK are currently second in the points table with four points and trail leaders Kings XI Punjab, who have a 100% record in the tournament so far, by two points.

Meanwhile, MI began their title defence on a disappointing note having lost all their matches played this season. The Mumbai based outfit lost the opening game to Kolkata Knight Riders by 41 runs before losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) last Saturday.

RCB skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected for his team to field first. Their bowlers restricted John Wright's side to just 115 runs in 20 overs. Ambati Rayudu was the only batsman who added a significant amount of runs to the tally by scoring 35 runs.

The Bangalore based outfit had little trouble in chasing the score as Parthiv Patel (57) and AB de Villiers (45) handed MI their second straight defeat in the seventh IPL season.

Zaheer Khan and Lasith Malinga were the only wicket-takers for the defending champions with two and one scalps respectively to their names.

MI currently sit second from bottom of the points table without any points and skipper Rohit Sharma will be desperate to inspire his side to their first victory this year.
