Manchester United Striker Wayne Rooney is Enjoying His Football, Claims David Moyes

Manchester United manager David Moyes believes that Wayne Rooney is now enjoying his football at Old Trafford.

The 28-year-old wanted to leave the Red Devils last summer but the club refused to sell their star striker as Jose Mourinho was hoping to bring him to Chelsea. Since then Rooney has signed a new four-year extension to his current deal reportedly worth £300,000 per week.

Moyes claims that his star striker is one of those players who has an enormous amount of desire and potential to give his best efforts for the team.

The 50-year-old Scot also insists that the England international has become a better player and stresses that Rooney is cautious about his fitness especially with the World Cup looming on the horizon.

"He's lean, he's physically in good condition. He smiles, he trains well. I think he's enjoying his football," Moyes told United's official website.

"I think Wayne's a different player now. His maturity... he's just signed another new contract, he's due to go to the World Cup. If ever there was a player ready to go and play in any game – at the age he is, the time of his career and what he's capable of – it's Wayne Rooney.

"I think Wayne knows he's coming into the final furlong of the Premier League season and he knows he has another tournament [the World Cup] ready to start not long after that," he added.

Rooney was out of United's last two competitive fixtures due to a toe injury. The former Everton striker initially spent time on the sidelines in January due to a groin injury.

United now travel to Goodison Park for the weekend Premier League fixture against Everton on Sunday. Moyes reveals that Rooney has been training well over the last few days and the Glaswegian expects his star striker to be one of the best performers for the Red Devils against his former club.

"I think he's trained well this week. I think he looks in good condition. I'm expecting Wayne to stand up and be seen at Goodison on Sunday," Moyes concluded.

Rooney is United's top scorer in the league this season having scored 15 goals so far in 27 appearances.
