Tottenham Hotspur defeated Fulham, 3-1, on Saturday at White Hart Lane in a Premier League London derby.

Paulinho, Harry Kane and Younes Kaboul scored the goals for Spurs, while Christian Eriksen recorded a pair of assists. Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris also starred, keeping out a penalty for the hosts.

Steve Sidwell scored the only goal for Fulham but also missed a second-half penalty.

First-Half Analysis

Spurs started without a defensive-minded midfielder in the side, which was a worry ahead of a makeshift back four. Fulham took advantage twice in the opening minutes, Alexander Kacaniklic firing into the side netting in the second minute, and Hugo Rodallega mis-hitting an effort one minute later.

The hosts had a good chance in the 18th minute. Eriksen took a second from the right and the ball eventually fell to Younes Kabou, whose free header flew over the bar. At the other end, Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris did well to keep out Rodallega, saving from close range.

Spurs turned up the pressure as the half wore on, Aaron Lennon's shot being pushed onto the woodwork by David Stockdale after Eriksen's cross was cleared directly into Lennon's path.

Shortly before half-time, both teams scored within moments of each other as the match came to life.

Spurs went ahead in the 35th minute, an unmarked Paulinho sweeping home at the far post from Eriksen's fine free kick. But Fulham equalised only two minutes later as Tottenham's defence shut off. Steve Sidwell attempted to play a one-two in the box, but although Zeki Fryers intercepted, the ball rolled right back to Sidweel, who scooped his finish over Lloris to pull the Cottagers level.

Second-Half Analysis

Spurs went ahead for a second time early in the second half, Harry Kane heading in Lennon's cross from the right. Lloris preserved the lead moments later, saving well from Rodallega's header.

The hosts made it 3-1 in the 62nd minute with a goal that was similar to their opener. Eriksen fired in another free kick with pace, this time from the left, and an unmarked Younes Kaboul knocked the ball into the net with his knee.

Eriksen has now assisted seven league goals in 2014. According to @SquawkaDave, no player has recorded more in that time.

Fulham caught a lifeline in the 76th minute after Spurs conceded a penalty, but Lloris saved Sidwell's spot-kick, which was hit with power but too close to the French goalkeeper.
