Sophomore tosses career-high 7.1 innings for win

Box Score

MOBILE, Ala. – Sophomore left-hander Kyle Cedotal tossed a career-high 7.1 innings Tuesday as Southeastern Louisiana shut out South Alabama, 5-0, at Stanky Field.

Cedotal (2-1) scattered three hits, walking three and fanning four batters, en route to earning the win. Southeastern (24-13), which defeated South Alabama (16-20) earlier this season, swept the season series from the Jaguars.

The Lions gave Cedotal an early lead, picking up a run in the second inning. Andrew Godbold singled up the middle to lead off the inning and then stole second base. He scored on a two-out single through the left side by second baseman Kevin Carr.

USA starter, and loser, Jared Gates (1-4) then settled in and matched Cedotal's scoreless pitching over the next four innings.

Southeastern added some insurance runs late, scoring a pair of runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.

Jacob Williams drew a one-out walk in the seventh, moved to third on Jacob Seward's hit-and-run single and then scored on a wild pitch. After Seward was caught stealing, Sam Roberson and Jameson Fisher knocked back-to-back singles. Godbold drove in Roberson with a double to right.

Freshman right-hander Gage Pickett tossed the final 1.2 innings for the Lions, walking two and striking out three.

Southeastern returns to action in a three-game series, beginning Thursday, against the University of New Orleans. Games Thursday and Saturday will be played at Maestri Field in New Orleans, La., but Friday's contest is slated for for 6 p.m. at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
