I think you just ignore, that on web the resolution of the THETA is more than enough.
People all over the world will find the new 360° look interesting and they see you can do it by yourself with that tinny little Ricoh Cam.
I think it doesnt matter, that the THETA isnt perfect. It is a great Marketing Instrument for Ricoh without big investment.

Who is buying a Theta?

Kids with camera phones that want a $400 spherical option?

This is also on the web. (12 handheld shots with Pentax k-5 and the DA 10-17 fisheye.) There is a clearly noticable difference in resolution between the Theta shots and this one. Even though both are on the Internet. So I agree with Katmandude, Ricoh could have done much better with the hardware they already have in house.

for example you could do nice, uncomplicated virtual walkings through buildings and stores to show customers on web how it will look there and where they can find what they are searching. It is more than just a gimmick. It is a cheap way to do this for web. Much cheaper than do it the old way with panos. Of cause, the resolution could be better. But think about to walk through a building in every room ... just one click an no endless work to stich all the panos. Thats the strengh of the THETA. It is easy to use, it is fast, all for 400 Bugs. ... and you can catch all the people in there! One shot and ready!

Maybe real estate agents that can't find free photographers to take pictures for a virtual tour of their house. I bet you could do a double theta to do 3D 360 degree pictures that accurately measure and can create a 3d model of a space with a little software. This could also be really useful with certain applications in robotics. Hopefully theta will have some kind of USB connection and an API that lets a computer use some of that potential.

That would be cool.

I suppose in the meantime one could do time-lapse or stop-go.

Ive seen the GoPro have small sections of Best Buys photography areas. It includes bags and other accessories.

Could the Theta carry a section w/ 360 only camera?
