Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq: YHOO) CEO and president Marissa Mayer will visit Israel in July. Mayer met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday during the Davos World Economic Forum in Switzerland and he asked her to enlarge Yahoo's presence in Israel.
During their meeting Netanyahu told Mayer, "Powers were once measured by their size, but today they are measured by their number of unique users. I want you to enlarge your presence in Israel and we want to expand our partnership with you."
Yahoo! has a relatively small development center in the Matam high-tech park at the southern entrance to Haifa. Netanyahu told Mayer about the advantages of investing in Israeli technology and presented his vision to transform Israel into a global cyber power. He asked her what he could do so that Yahoo! would increase its investment in Israel. Mayer told him that she would be visiting Israel in July.
Speaking at Davos, Mayer said yesterday, "2014 is interesting because it will be a tipping point for mobile technology and other things. Everything is about apps and that's not only how people contact one another but major things are happening."
She added, "150,000 people let strangers stay at their home last year through Airbnb. 1.5 million people assigned tasks to strangers through TaskRabbit. 56% would consider renting out their cars to strangers. The Internet of Things makes connecting and trusting people easier. Part of this is the sharing economy, but through Internet of Things and mobile we can inspire and entertain people like never before."
