New RM1-million mark for foreigners may hurt property market, says developers’ association

The police will be allocated RM8.8 billion in the 2014 Budget to combat crime and maintain public order.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said RM200 million would be provided to equip the police with firearms, ammunition, bulletproof vests, narcotic detectors, biometric systems and forensic vehicles.

The government will also provide 469 closed-circuit cameras in 25 local authorities involving an allocation of RM20 million, he said when presenting the 2014 Budget at the Dewan Rakyat today.

An additional 200 motorcycles will be procured for the police bringing the total to 2,000 within two years, he said, adding that 800 motorcycles would be bought this year at the cost of RM20 million.

The prime minister said to further strengthen the police force, the government would build and upgrade police headquarters, district police headquarters and staff quarters involving an allocation of RM128 million.

The allocation includes the construction of new police district headquarters in Pasir Mas (Kelantan), Kota Setar (Kedah), Johor Baharu Selatan, Sipitang (Sabah), Nusajaya (Johor) as well as building new police stations in Pengerang (Johor), Tongod (Sabah) and Rawang Country Homes (Selangor). – Bernama, October 25, 2013.
