英語は、そこそこ読めるものの聞き取りと会話はできない方です。
子供の教育にと、ゆるめにDWE（プレイアロング＋α）はしています。

英語の教免持ちですが、お恥ずかしながら、英文字幕もないので会話はほぼ聞き取れないです。
ビジュアルで分かりやすいので、何が起こっているかはほぼ分かります。

アルファベットの読み（フォニックス）についてのDVDなのは皆様おっしゃっている通りなのですが、素直に良い出来だとおもいます。
2/5程は「ビックリした時のアー！」「耳が遠く聞き返す時のエー？」「ヘビの鳴き声のスーッ」等、面白くインパクトのある表現で説明されています。
残りの3/5程は、やはりネイティブ向けの教材なだけあって、「ブラスバンドのブ」「ポップコーンのプ」等、英単語から音を引っ張ってきていて、日本人の特に子どもからは馴染みにくいかもしれません。
それを差し引いてもかなり納得しやすい。
特に、日本人鬼門の「L」に至っては「ペロペロキャンディを舐めるレル」のように伝えられていて、目から鱗でした。

連動したフリッジフォニックスアルファベットというおもちゃも良い出来で、自分ではめ込んで押さえるという能動的なアクションが追加できるのが良い。当方は1歳半ですが、型はめパズル的に遊んでいます。
DVDを観るという受動的な行為だけでは、やはり記憶には残りづらいかと思うので、一緒に使うのがオススメです。

子どもがこれで覚えなかったとしても、英語学習の過程で親が引用して教え直したりできると感じました。

余談ですが、DWEにはフォニックスがない（母語方式なので不要と公式は言っている）のですが、かじってみればわかる通り、DWEは単語数を絞りに絞って単語及び文法を感覚的に理解させることに特化した教材だと思います。
また、教材ごとのリンクによる繰り返しで刷り込んでいくので、大幅な変更をしにくい=フォニックスを後から追加する余地がなかったのだと思います…。
私個人もフォニックスは、必須ではないがあれば理解が早い、といったジャンルかと思います。
ただ前述の通り、DWEは単語数をかなり絞っているので、併用すると活きるかなと思います。

DWEの代わりに！というような記事もみかけましたが、どちらもクォリティは良いものの、全くジャンルが違います。
フォニックスは読み方のルールです。それを覚えたからと言って英語の聞き取りや会話力に繋がるわけもなし。英語の習得という上では、文法をメインに扱うDWEの方が中古でも成果は上がると思いますが、お値段もボリューム（つまり覚えたり取り組んだりする労力）も全く違います。なにより、習得できるかどうかは本人の興味ややる気にもよりますので、親も本人も負担少なくやり切れると思うものをされると良いかと。

This dvd is incredible. My 3 1/2 year old daughter loves it and can't have enough of it! She watches it on repeat at least 4 times a day and my 22 month old daughter copies and says the sounds of most of the alphabest!

The only downside of this that it is only available in region 1 code so you must have a multi-coded player and it being american I have "arguments" with my daughter on the pronunciation of the "Z" and "letter" pronounced as "ledder"! Never mind! Little details like these can be ironed out in no time!

Will recommend it to any one!

I love this video! It has helped all my children (I have 5) understand how letters have names and sounds. I always start with this DVD when we start phonics/beginner reading. Wonderfully easy to grasp concepts as young as 2 can learn. BONUS it comes with flash cards to remind kids of each letter’s sound. I like to have my kids use the flash cards everyday for different fun activities.
I have bought this DVD 3 times (as my kids keep wearing it out!) it is sooo good!!
