Conn. Gun Violence Task Force Website Goes Live

HARTFORD, Conn. (CBSNewYork/AP) - A new website has been launched by the Connecticut General Assembly's bipartisan task force on gun violence and children's safety, as the panel seeking input from the public.

The website allows the public to submit testimony on several ideas being considered in the wake of the Newtown school shooting.

The 52-member task force was convened in the wake of the Dec. 14 rampage left 20 first graders and six educators dead. Sandy Hook Elementary School had recently implemented new safety protocols before the massacre.

Information on four public hearings scheduled through the end of the month is available on the website, along with a link to submit testimony.

Testimony can also be submitted in person and will be made available for public review on the website.

State lawmakers hope to take action on a package of legislative changes before the end of February.

Gov. Dannel Malloy also launched a 16-member bipartisan Sandy Hook Advisory Commission, tasked with recommending possible safety changes to state laws and policies.

A coalition of Connecticut mayors and first selectmen has also come together to make recommendations to clamp down on gun violence.
