An envelope containing a suspicious white powder was sent to the offices of Westchester newspaper The Journal News yesterday, just a few days after employees received an envelope filled with similar-looking powder.
An employee at the Journal News, which has received heated criticism after publishing a map with the names and addresses of locally registered gun owners last month, noticed something strange in an envelope while opening the mail, and upon inspection found it filled with heavy white powder. The powder is currently being analyzed by the Westchester County Hazardous Materials team. Earlier this week, the Journal News received a similar envelope, although officials found that the powder it contained was baking powder.
The Journal News says they've received a number of threats since publishing the map, and have since hired armed security. And leaders in Rockland County, whose gun owners were outed by the Journal News, are pushing back against the publication, seeking legislation that would prohibit gun registration information from being published.
