Disaster unemployment benefits for Union County residents made jobless by Hurricane Sandy

Union County residents whose jobs were lost due to Hurricane Sandy can file for special unemployment benefits.

Federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance is available to people in the hardest hit areas of the state, the eight counties declared a federal disaster area as a result of the destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy, including Union.

This special assistance program is pertains to people, including those self-employed, living or working in the county at the time of the storm.

Affected individuals have until Dec. 3 to file for the benefits at njuifile.net or by contacting the state Department of Labor’s Re-employment call centers in North Jersey (201-601-4100), Central Jersey (732-761-2020) and South Jersey (856-507-2340).
