'You're really hot': Mel B has a soft spot for X Factor wannabe Joseph Whelan who stuns the judges with a Led Zeppelin classic

It's not very often that the female X Factor judges get in a fluster, so Joesph Whelan should be flattered.

The 26-year-old tool salesman caused quite a stir when he auditioned in Manchester, and judge Melanie Brown didn't hide her feelings for him.

'You smashed it. You're really hot, you've got great tattoos, you smash thing up with tools and then you sing! Done!' she told him following his performance of Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love.

'Oh my god ,what a voice and what a tone you have,' Tulisa Contostavlos told him. 'Gary's gonna start getting jealous as you're going to be getting all the female attention.'

However, the Take That star didn't mind and told Joseph: 'i really enjoyed that,' before Louis Walsh added: 'You've got an authentic rock voice.'

Joseph told the panel that the reason he was on the show was to 'try and give my son the best life possible, I’d feel complete in life if i could do that.'

Following a foursome of yes' from the judges, Joseph's young son ran on stage to hug his father, which not only made him emottional but also the judges as well.

'He's so likeable, he's one to watch,' Louis said once he had left the stage.

Another male contestant who impressed the judges by singing a rock song was lifeguard Jake Quickenden who sang a version of Kings of Leon's Use Somebody.

'I love your voice, I love your image, I thought it was a great song choice for your audition today, you were fantastic well done,' Gary told him.

But it was full-time mother, Melanie Masson who got a standing ovation from the crowd and the panel.

She managed to get good comments from all of the judges judges after belting out Janis Joplin's Cry Baby.

'I started singing in bands from the age of 15,' she told them before performing. ;I used to sing all over Glasgow, then I had two wonderful children who are my absolute life but I still have dreams that I’ve yet to fulfil.

'Melanie that was insane, oh my god that voice, you were guiding us through the song. It was amazing, it really was,' Gary told her once she had finished.

Tulisa agreed, saying: 'You came on stage and you seemed really gentle and then all of the sudden this fire and this soul and this diva came out of you. You owned that stage you absolutely rocked it - that is how you do an audition. Amazing.'

'You're never too old to have a record deal,' guest judge Anastacia added.
