Darren Clarke impressed by changes to course at Gleneagles

THE Northern Irishman was among the most vocal critics of the PGA Centenary Course but his mind has been changed by a multi-million-pound revamp.

DARREN CLARKE admits he was lured back to Gleneagles by glowing reports about changes to the course he used to slaughter – and the former Open champion likes what he sees.

The Northern Irishman was among the most vocal critics of the PGA Centenary Course but his mind has been changed by a multi-million-pound revamp.


The changes include a re-design of the 18th and a drainage system for problem greens.


Now Clarke reckons the course is in good shape to host the Ryder Cup in 2014.

He said: “After hearing about the changes I wanted to return – and there’s no doubt it’s a big improvement.

“They have invested in the SubAir system and the redesign of parts of the course.

“Unfortunately, with the forecast this week, I think we’ll find out how good the SubAir is but it will help the greens because they are a lot better than what I experienced before.”
