After a six month break, the X Factor is back and boy has it returned with a bang! With Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh having returned to their seats, the ninth series welcomed new judge Nicole Scherzinger.

As the judges settled themselves into their seats, the auditions began...

With the new show focusing on the back story of those auditioning, we were introduced to Sheyi who looked the package as he spoke confidently in his VT. However, the audience and the judges were left shocked when Sheyi started to sing. Sounding like Louis Armstrong in every song he sang, Nicole started off with the comments telling him: "Hi, it’s a wonderful world! I love your personality, kind of a split personality! It’s like Sheyi Armstrong! If we’re doing a Louis Armstrong tribute then there’s potential…"

Tulisa quipped: "You go from Camden boy to Cookie Monster in 0.5 seconds!", whilst Gary Barlow added: "[in Louis Armstrong voice] I thought it was terrible.  The problem is the work that needs to be done on your voice is surgical work."

As the auditions went on, the judges were met by various hopefuls who could sing a note perfectly to those who just couldn't. Getting her time to shine on the stage was Pink tribute act, Zoe. Despite telling the judges that she didn't want to carry on copying Pink, the 22 year-old opted to sing one of the artist's songs as her audition song.

Having sung 'So What', the singer appeared nervous as she awaited the judges comments. Sadly they weren't positive as Nicole, Gary, Tulisa and Louis couldn't understand her song choice. Despite asking Zoe to sing another song, she still couldn't impress the judges.

However no one could have guessed how Zoe would react as she berated the judges, calling them "c****" before storming off the stage and throwing her microphone, and backstage was no different as she pushed cameras out of the way as she made her way out.

Reacting to Zoe's behaviour, Gary said: "she’s just hit the camera man", whilst Nicole reacted, saying: "Inappropriate!"

The first episode of the new series also saw Mel B take on the role of guest judge. However she gave head judge Gary a run for his money in the honest criticism stakes as she didn't hold back telling hopefuls when they couldn't sing. Some of her classic comments to the hopefuls were:

"You look like a pop star, you don’t sound like one" and "That has to be the worst audition, ever."
