The hopefuls of this year's X Factor better be ready to work their bums off after Gary Barlow slammed last year's contestants for being "lazy".

Shocked by how complacent some of the contestants were last year, the judge who will return to our screens this Saturday (Aug 18) with new judge Nicole Scherzinger, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh, told the Daily Mail's Weekend magazine:

"One of the biggest shocks for me last year was how quickly people become lazy once they get into this competition.

"I found myself thinking, 'Hold on, this is just the start. You haven't made it yet. Even if you win it is just the start.'"

Labelling the contestants laid back attitude to the competition last year as "weird", Gary who performed at last night's London 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony with Take That, added to the publication:

"It is weird. You take people off the street and put them in this bubble and they start to act like they have arrived. You can see them thinking, 'I was born to do this, I don't have to work at it'."

However, it appears that Gary is feeling positive about this year's talent, telling The Sun: "The standard has definitely gone up a few notches. I think the audience is going to love it."

We can't wait for the show to start, can you?
