SAP Steps Up Mobile App Partner Recruitment

Through the new initiatives SAP hopes to "remove the barriers for the developers to engage with the [SAP] platform," said David Brutman, senior director of developer relations, in an interview.

The vendor is particularly looking to recruit companies developing packaged business-to-business and business-to-consumer mobile applications. Brutman said more than 30 development partners already have been enlisted.

The latest efforts build on a series of announcements SAP made at its Sapphire Now conference in May where company executives touted channel opportunities around the SAP Mobile Platform and Afaria mobile device management software.

The SAP Mobile Apps Partner Program offers ISVs a package of tools, technical and commercialization support services, SAP certification of mobile applications built on the vendor's platform, and the ability to sell those apps through SAP's online app marketplace, the SAP Store.

The free developer license through AWS includes access to a hosted development environment and a software development kit. While there are no developer fees, developers still have to pay the hosting fees, according to SAP.

SAP also is offering developers a free 30-day trial of the SAP mobile platform and the company's ERP applications to help with development.

In April SAP said it had integrated the SAP Mobile Platform with development tools from Adobe, Appcelerator and Sencha.
